For those that know (or dont), I'm on my school's FSAE team. Yesterday was a pretty huge day for us. For years, we've ran with the same tired, old, worn out Yamaha WR450 engines. We had three engines, an 03, an 07, and an 08 that we frankenstined together to make one, maybe two running engines. Well this year, we raised money, and bought a new, straight from factory 2014 YFZ450. And yesterday, we got it fired up for the first time. Now, this isn't just a get the motor, press the button and go type thing. We had to make our Motec Engine management system work with the engine, needed to redo the engines wiring harness, and then needed to dial everything in to work together. Here's some pictures of the occasion.

I also did some remachining on our wheel hubs. Tricky part to hold and machine, and I'm pleased how they came out.

Lastly, I got the head unit and speakers my brother got me for the holidays installed in my truck. They sound great!

Ooooh fancy, a brand new engine, we were lucky enough to find scrap CBR 600 engines for cheap/free for each of our cars. The year when we swapped from a Autronic to a Vipec ECU all shit broke loose though. I managed to get it running about a week before competition lol.

I think we bought a Honda CRF 450 engine off of Ebay (hence why I think it was a Honda, because it could have been a Chinese knock-off) the last year I was on the team. The way we had the intake set up it sounded like a semi truck. Before that, we had mostly run CBR 600 F1 engines.

They come from my fuel sending unit. The fuel gauge doesn't work, so I pulled the wires through so when I get a new gauge, I dont need to hunt for the wires. Plus, I can throw a multimeter across them and read resistance and get an idea of how much fuel I have left.

Yeah our team was seriously looking at moving to a single, even had a sponsor donate a turbo, but then we went to Michigan last year and a bunch of good teams couldn't get theirs to start and failed endurance for it. After that we decided, nah, lets stick with the old f4i that runs well and starts reliably regardless of weather and other crap. Sure it weights a little more and is a bit thirsty, but you're never gonna win the race if you engine wont start! then we got 3 forths and a 3rd at Lincoln and it was pretty much sealed
